Former President Donald Trump announced on August 25 that the U.S. Navy has completely cleared the Strait of Hormuz of mines.
In a statement shared online, Trump wrote: “The U.S. Navy has just informed me that all mines in the international waters of the Strait of Hormuz have been removed.”
Trump also warned Iran to immediately destroy any vessel deploying new mines and asserted that U.S. military forces control “every inch” of the strait, as well as critical facilities including Pickaxe Mountain and three other nuclear sites.
Additionally, reports indicate that on August 10, U.S. officials signaled a potential end to the blockade on Iranian ports following an agreement on unhindered navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The United States has stated that further actions will depend on Iran fulfilling its obligations under the deal.
