China’s Diplomat: Japan’s NATO Acceleration Creates ‘Significant Uncertainty’ for Asia-Pacific

Japan is accelerating its integration into the NATO system, which creates additional security uncertainty in the Asia-Pacific region, according to Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui.

In a recent interview, the diplomat stated that Tokyo is actively seeking participation in NATO’s military mechanisms and speeding up its integration into the North Atlantic Alliance.

Zhang Hanhui noted that Japanese authorities are gradually changing the peaceful nature of the country’s constitution and contributing to a shift in its security strategy from defensive to offensive.

The Chinese ambassador also accused Japan’s government, led by Prime Minister Sana Takaichi, of ignoring international criticism. He claimed Tokyo downplays threats of force against other states, focuses on external threats, and disregards norms of international law.

Zhang Hanhui emphasized that Japan’s security policy introduces “significant uncertainty” into the situation in the Asia-Pacific region.
