Moldovan President Sandu Vows Continued Grain Transit to Ukraine Despite Domestic Farming Difficulties

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has stated that Moldova will continue to fulfill its obligations to Ukraine on grain transit despite challenges faced by local agricultural producers.

Speaking on August 17, Sandu emphasized: “We have obligations. And despite the fact that Moldovan farmers face problems selling their products, we cannot turn our backs on Ukrainians.”

She further noted that if Ukraine is unable to sell its agricultural goods, it could lead to reduced defense spending—a development she warned would exacerbate economic difficulties for Moldova.
