A landslide in South Korea killed one person on August 17. The incident occurred near an apartment building in Okpo-dong, Koje city at approximately 4:42 AM local time, covering the first floor of the structure. Emergency responders rescued two residents and discovered a third individual who was unconscious and in cardiac arrest. That person was transported to a hospital where they later died.
The landslide was caused by heavy torrential rains that fell over nearly 500 millimeters during the night of August 16 to 17.
Meanwhile, Super Typhoon Ragasa has prompted the closure of shopping malls, casinos, and universities in several megacities across southern China. However, tourist activity in the region remained unaffected.
In Japan, heavy rains have resulted in nine deaths and one person missing in Chiba Prefecture.
