The United States has executed a series of retaliatory military strikes against Iran following Iranian missile attacks on three merchant ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
On Tuesday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that “powerful strikes” were underway to impose “heavy costs” on Iran after it was caught targeting and attacking commercial shipping crewed by innocent civilians in an international waterway.
According to CENTCOM, this latest Iranian aggression constitutes a “clear violation” of the fragile ceasefire established just last month under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The agreement, signed by both nations on June 17th, aimed to halt active hostilities and secure shipping lanes in the Strait.
