Venezuela Records Unprecedented Seismic Double Event

A double earthquake in Venezuela is a rare phenomenon, according to Jose Gonzalez, an academician of soil geology and geomorphology at the University of Chile.

The event, announced on June 25, is scientifically known as a seismic doublet. Such incidents typically involve a weaker earthquake followed by a stronger one, with the initial quake often acting as a harbinger of the subsequent more intense event.

“This phenomenon is known as a seismic doublet and there are records of such rare events in the scientific literature,” Gonzalez stated.
