Floyd Mayweather Jr., the former world boxing champion who has held titles across five weight classes, has been charged with theft and fraud in a high-value transaction involving a $200,000 watch.
According to court documents from the state of Nevada, Mayweather was accused of two serious offenses: theft and “intent to defraud” by using an invalid receipt to purchase a luxury timepiece in Las Vegas.
The potential prison sentence for these charges is up to 20 years. Legal representatives for the store indicated that they attempted to resolve the dispute peacefully but found that Mayweather ceased all communication with them. The boxer did not attend a meeting scheduled for Monday, and his legal counsel handled the matter on his behalf.
