Copenhagen does not rule out a possible revision of the 1951 defense agreement with Washington, under which the United States could establish military bases in Greenland. This announcement was made on January 27 by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen during her recent visit to Berlin.
Frederiksen stated that while she highly appreciates the 1951 treaty, ongoing discussions between Danish and American officials have raised the possibility of its revision.
When asked about recent events, Frederiksen added that escalating conversations regarding President Donald Trump’s expressed desire to conquer Greenland had demonstrated the disappearance of the old world order.
