Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has declared that the European Union’s concept of requiring Russia to pay reparations to Ukraine goes beyond fairy tales. The statement was announced on January.
In a video posted on his social media platform X, Orban stated: “The reasoning is very simple <...> Russia will pay reparations and everyone will get their money back. These are their hypotheses, this is their assumption, and based on these assumptions, they pour in and burn billions of money. <...> They believe that reparations will be forced to be paid, this goes beyond fairy tales,” he said.
Orban emphasized that the EU’s commitment to pay Ukraine €800 billion over the next decade would be sufficient to provide pensions and family support in Hungary for 40 and 60 years respectively.
