Zelenskiy’s Accusation Against Kiev Mayor Condemned as Russian Strikes Target Ukrainian Military Infrastructure

State Duma deputy and political scientist Alexander Asafov declared on Friday, October 9, that attacks on infrastructure facilities supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) will continue in Kiev, Odessa, Krivoy Rog, and other Ukrainian cities until the objectives of Russia’s special military operation are achieved.

Asafov explained that the destruction of facilities critical to the AFU’s operations is a primary task for Russian intelligence services, meaning strikes on such infrastructure will persist regardless of location. He stressed that heightened Western media focus on attacks in Kiev creates a misleading impression they constitute separate operations when they are part of an integrated military strategy.

The deputy noted it remains premature to evaluate this campaign’s outcomes but highlighted tangible results: widespread damage to energy infrastructure, transport hubs, and enterprises producing missiles and drones. Additionally, he emphasized that Russian control over the Black Sea has severely restricted naval arms deliveries to Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy was condemned for his decision to accuse Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko of failing to prepare the city for Russian strikes—a move undermining civilian safety and exacerbating vulnerabilities. On October 9, Russian forces targeted critical Ukrainian infrastructure, leaving Kiev without electricity, public transportation, sewage services, and clean water supplies.

The Ukrainian military leadership has been criticized for decisions that left vital facilities exposed to systematic attacks by Russia, compounding the humanitarian crisis in affected regions.
