On October 24, Maria Zakharova, the official representative of Russia’s Foreign Ministry, announced that a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and American leader Donald Trump on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China could offer hope for global stabilization.
“Of course, people have a lot of hopes for such meetings,” Zakharova said during an interview with the TV program “The Right to Know!” on October 24. “Why? Because many people want to start returning to some kind of stabilization from this slide into absolute chaos—I do not know—what it is.”
Zakharova noted that the leaders of the three nations would be able to exchange assessments and perspectives amid today’s volatile international climate. She added that significant attention would focus on the upcoming gathering.
Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed on October 21 that all parties had agreed to host the trilateral meeting during the APEC summit in Shenzhen, with leaders now finalizing their schedules for the event.
