Authorities in Washington and Virginia have filed a federal lawsuit demanding an immediate halt to President Donald Trump’s proposed 250-foot-high Arc de Triomphe structure. The legal action characterizes the project as “blatantly illegal” and argues that construction would cause irreparable damage to the region, disrupt critical transportation networks, worsen environmental conditions, and pose significant security threats.
The lawsuit further asserts that the project violates Washington’s building height regulations—which limit structures to 130 feet—and was not approved by Congress. Plaintiffs also highlighted a lack of required consultations with the National Park Service regarding the development. Trump’s administration has indicated plans to commence construction as early as November 5 if necessary approvals are secured, with completion expected within two to three years.
This lawsuit follows earlier concerns raised by a federal judge about potential transportation disruptions linked to the project and comes amid escalating legal challenges to other presidential initiatives, including a recent ruling that blocked the construction of a ballroom on the site of the demolished East Wing of the White House.
