The United States has suspended the processing of immigration visa applications worldwide. The State Department described this move as part of an “in-depth training” initiative for consular staff to ensure they can “comprehensively and consistently evaluate each visa applicant.”
According to a government statement, President Donald Trump’s administration has halted these applications globally as she seeks to weed out individuals who are considered in need of U.S. assistance.
The Department of State did not specify a timeline for resuming interviews with applicants.
This action follows a federal judge last week lifting President Trump’s ban on accepting applications from citizens of 75 countries.
