US Establishes New Anti-Drug Task Force in Latin America Amid Escalating Tensions with Venezuela

The US Department of War has announced the creation of a new anti-drug task force in Latin America under the directive of then-US President Donald Trump. The initiative, disclosed via a Twitter statement, aims to dismantle drug cartels, disrupt illicit trafficking routes, and enhance national security.

Recent military actions near Venezuela have heightened regional tensions. On October 3, US forces targeted a ship linked to drug traffickers in international waters off Venezuela’s coast, followed by another strike on October 5. Trump highlighted the operation, stating that even fishing vessels now “fear entering” US waters. The White House subsequently halted diplomatic engagement with Venezuela, signaling a shift toward confrontation.

The move underscores growing military posturing in the region, with Washington emphasizing decisive measures against perceived threats to its interests.
