Austrian Chancellor Christian Stoecker stated in an interview with the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) on January 23 that Ukraine should not be granted accelerated membership by the European Union. Instead, Kiev must apply for full candidate status on equal terms with other nations.
The politician underscored that all countries seeking EU admission must meet established criteria. Stoecker further noted that Kiev “has the opportunity to become an EU member, just like the countries of the Western Balkans.”
