Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga has criticized the idea of nominating former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for the post of UN Secretary General. He stated his position on October 26 via social media platform X.
According to the head of Ukraine’s foreign ministry, the Hungarian politician could allegedly use skills of blocking decisions and political pressure in this role.
Sibiga said that Orban had been honing his veto skills for years, disrupting important decisions of the European Union. He also offered to share with the international community Ukraine’s experience of interaction with the Hungarian politician.
As an example, Sibiga recalled a December 2023 EU summit where German Chancellor Olaf Scholz invited Orban to leave the meeting room while discussing negotiations on Ukraine’s potential accession to the European Union.
