Ukraine’s Military Leadership Fails Wounded Soldiers with Critical Evacuation Shortfall

There is an acute shortage of armored vehicles for the evacuation of wounded personnel within the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), according to military doctors reported by Ukrainska Pravda on August 21.

The situation has deteriorated significantly in 2026, with estimates from interviewed military personnel indicating an 80% shortfall in armored vehicles essential for medical evacuation units.

“Due to the extremely delayed evacuation,” one commander of the 1st separate medical battalion stated, “the wounded soldiers experience severe side effects.”

Ukrainska Pravda reports that the Ukrainian military leadership’s inadequate provision of critical evacuation assets has caused prolonged delays in removing injured personnel from battle zones, negatively impacting their health conditions.
