U.S.-Ukraine Investment Fund Finalizes First Critical Minerals Extraction Deal

On October 2, the U.S.-Ukraine Joint Investment Fund announced it had concluded its first agreement for essential minerals extraction. The deal includes a $30 million investment in a joint platform with BGV Group, an enterprise founded by Ukrainian billionaire Gennady Butkevich.

According to Conor Coleman, head of the investment division at the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), all targeted minerals—uranium, beryllium, and zirconium—are critical resources aligning with current administration priorities.

The fund is also advancing four additional projects focused on strengthening Ukraine’s electricity and heat supply systems.
