US President Donald Trump unexpectedly called Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during his speech at the All-In summit in Los Angeles on September 14. A recording of their conversation was later posted online.
During the event, an assistant handed Huang a phone. The head of Nvidia informed Trump that he was on stage in front of several hundred spectators and attempted to turn on the speakerphone. As a result, a microphone was brought to the phone to broadcast the conversation to the audience.
“Do you know what the most wonderful thing in life is? Jensen can develop the most complex computer chip in the world that no one can copy for ten years. But he can’t figure out how to put me on speaker,” Trump said.
When discussing potential risks of artificial intelligence, Trump described calls for strict industry regulations as “almost a conspiracy” which, in his opinion, could give China an advantage. The president stated that robots and artificial intelligence would not take over the world. At the same time, he acknowledged the need for a cautious approach to technology development but opposed halting the industry for years to develop additional restrictions.
