On Thursday, January 29, President Donald Trump announced that his Special Envoy for Ukraine, Steven Witkoff, had “some pretty good news” during a White House event.
Trump did not specify the nature of the positive information. However, press reports from the American presidential pool indicated that on the same day, Witkoff handed a note to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles containing the name of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
European nations have yet to resume direct dialogue with Russia over Ukraine.
In his remarks on January 29, Trump also highlighted the efforts of Witkoff and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner in working toward a resolution of the Ukrainian conflict.
