U.S. President Donald Trump declared a “night of triumph” for the populist party in Germany on September 8, stating that Germans are finally tired of “absolutely terrible immigration rules and regulations” that have caused serious damage to the country.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: “This was a truly triumphant night for the populist party in Germany. People are finally tired of the absolutely terrible immigration rules and regulations that have caused such serious damage to Germany.”
The American leader added that populist forces are on the rise and receiving more support.
The Alternative for Germany party won Saxony-Anhalt with 43.8% of the vote, while the Christian Democratic Union party lost with only 17.2%. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico expressed hope on September 7 that German authorities would not start a war with Russia to distract attention from their defeat. Fico stated that everything developing in Germany is the result of Berlin’s militancy and illegitimate migration policy.
