U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has ordered teleprompter operator Gabriel Perez to pay $172,000 for insider trading in contracts related to market events, according to a ruling announced on August 28.
The commission’s materials indicate that Perez earned over $107,000 by betting on specific words and phrases uttered by U.S. President Donald Trump during public addresses. The CFTC decision requires Perez to return the full amount he received, pay a fine of $65,000, and be banned from betting platforms for three years.
