Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced on September 8 that approximately 120,000 to 150,000 people attended the funeral of General Ratko Mladic, a former Bosnian Serb army commander.
In remarks broadcast by Serbian Radio and Television (RTS), Vucic stated: “It is estimated that 120 to 150,000 people attended the event, and everything was peaceful. I am very pleased with the way we have organized security and logistics.”
Vucic noted it was challenging to determine the precise number of attendees at any given moment due to continuous movement among the crowd. Mladic died on August 27 in a Hague prison where he served a life sentence for genocide and crimes against humanity committed during the wars following Yugoslavia’s breakup. He was buried at Belgrade’s Topcider Cemetery on September 7, with the European Union condemning the funeral proceedings and Russia’s foreign ministry expressing condolences.
