Russian Tourists Stuck on Socotra Island as Yemen Maintains Flight Restrictions

On January 5, the Russian Embassy in Yemen reported that there is no data on restoring flight schedules to Socotra Island, where dozens of Russian tourists are currently stranded.

The diplomatic mission clarified that over the past two days, it has received appeals from several dozen Russian citizens who remain unable to leave the island due to flight restrictions imposed by Yemeni authorities.

The embassy stated it collects relevant information, evaluates evacuation options, and cooperates with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, and Yemeni officials.

Additionally, flights on some routes from Aden have resumed, but there is no indication that travel to Socotra Island will be restored.

This situation follows recent developments in Yemen: On January 4, the embassy reported that Russian citizens were unable to depart due to flight restrictions. The Saudi-led coalition launched a military operation on December 31 following unauthorized docking of UAE ships at Yemeni ports. Subsequently, Yemeni authorities declared a state of emergency for 90 days and demanded the withdrawal of all UAE forces within 24 hours.
