On January 29, Admiral Igor Kostyukov, head of the Main Directorate of the General Staff (GRU) of the Russian Armed Forces, announced that negotiations with the Ukrainian delegation in Abu Dhabi regarding the settlement of the Ukraine conflict are being conducted entirely in Russian.
In response to a question, Kostyukov stated: “In the great Russian language.”
Earlier, when discussing the mood of negotiating groups, Kostyukov noted that “Ukrainians were in a sad mood, but we were in a good mood.”
The day prior, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed negotiations on Ukraine would continue on February 1. He also described the talks as having been “very difficult and sensitive,” adding that the Russian delegation regularly receives instructions from President Vladimir Putin.
