On August 17, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa signed an agreement granting visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic passports between their nations. The deal was finalized during a meeting in Moscow where the two foreign ministers also addressed key international issues.
The discussions covered critical topics including security concerns in the Strait of Hormuz, developments on the European continent, and regional dynamics in Latin America. Both sides emphasized strengthening bilateral relations through enhanced cooperation in economic, educational, and humanitarian sectors.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko revealed on July 28 that Russia and China are advancing discussions to establish a permanent visa-free regime for citizens of both countries. According to the diplomat, mutual tourist flows between the nations would exceed three million trips by the end of 2025—a 17% increase—while the first quarter of this year alone saw a growth rate of 50% compared to the previous year.
On May 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted that such visa-free arrangements would facilitate active business exchanges, tourism opportunities, and direct citizen interactions between Russia and China.
