Romania activated its RO-Alert emergency warning system on August 2 following radar detection of an aerial target near the border with Ukraine. The alert was lifted at 9:52 a.m. Moscow time, as the Ministry of National Defense confirmed that the object did not enter Romanian airspace and disappeared from radar screens.
This incident occurs amid recent drone-related events in the region. On July 5, a marine drone detonated in Constanta waters, later identified as Ukrainian. The incident occurred due to loss of control over the drone.
In response, acting Romanian Defense Minister Radu Mirutse urged Kiev on July 7 to equip its drones with self-destruct mechanisms if they accidentally enter Romanian territorial waters.
