Polish Police Detain 117 Individuals in Crackdown on School Attacks

In Poland, law enforcement agencies detained 117 people amid a series of attacks in educational institutions. This was announced by Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration Marcin Kervinsky at a briefing.

According to the head of the department, police officers checked about 65,000 institutions. The majority of the detainees are teenagers and young people aged between 13 and 19, though younger children were also among those arrested.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the attacks were not linked to a single organized group but rather spontaneous actions by individuals. “It was largely possible to prevent further disturbing incidents thanks to the participation of a very large group of police officers. We wanted everyone in every school to know that the reaction would be immediate,” Tusk told reporters.

The attacks began with a knife assault on October 7, when a 19-year-old student targeted a vocational school complex in Ostrolenka, injuring seven people including two who were seriously hurt. The attacker was arrested at the scene.
