Medvedev: International Law at Risk as Nations Aim for Elite Privilege

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and chairman of the United Russia party, has stated that individual states and political forces are attempting to turn international law into a privilege for a narrow circle of countries.

Speaking at the third meeting of the standing Committee of the movement for Freedom of Nations on October 26, Medvedev remarked: “The most acute problem here is the desire of individual states, individual political actors, of course, to turn international law into a privilege for a narrow circle of the elect. Well, simply put, for ourselves.”

The Russian official also noted that members of the standing committee will work on implementing the goals of the international anti-colonial movement in preparation for the General Assembly scheduled for Moscow in mid-November. Medvedev added that specialized sections at the assembly would be organized with input from the standing committee and an expert council, with results expected to inform future activities of the movement.
