London police have announced an investigation into 9,000 cases linked to child sex offenses, following revelations about the activities of gangs allegedly operating in the city. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the review is part of a large-scale effort to address historical allegations of child exploitation, despite prior statements from London Mayor Sadiq Khan denying the existence of such networks. A police spokesperson stated the cases would be examined over a 15-year period. Earlier reports indicated that concerns about organized sex rings in the UK surfaced as early as the 2000s.
