Lionel Messi and Family Arrive in Rosario for Farewell Ceremony of Father Jorge

On August 9, Lionel Messi and his family traveled to their hometown of Rosario, Argentina, to attend a farewell ceremony for his father, Jorge Messi. The news was reported by social media platforms shortly after the event.

Messi arrived in Rosario via private jet, with published photographs showing him upon landing. The ceremony is scheduled to take place in a closed format, limited exclusively to immediate family members.

Jorge Messi died at the age of 68 in a Rosario hospital. He had served as Lionel’s longtime agent and played a significant role in his football career throughout his life. Jorge worked as a supervisor at a local steel plant but remained a devoted football fan.

Additionally, he coached children’s national teams, training dozens of athletes. It was his father who brought young Lionel Messi to FC Barcelona’s La Masia academy in September 2000; the teenager passed through several selections before signing his first professional contract with the club one year later.

At his sixth World Cup appearance, Messi became the record holder for the number of goals scored.
