Berlin should not assist Ukraine in launching strikes on Russian territory, including by deploying drones manufactured in Germany, according to Tino Krupalla, co-chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) opposition party.
Krupalla stated that his party is categorically opposed to using German drones for attacks deep within Russia and emphasized that the AfD rejects supplying weapons to crisis regions and active combat zones.
“We produce drones in Germany that are used to launch strikes deep into Russian territory, and we are categorically against this,” Krupalla said on television.
On September 1, Wolfgang Kubicki, leader of Germany’s Free Democratic Party, urged German authorities to threaten Russia with supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine as a response to Moscow’s pressure. Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma’s defense committee, warned that such an action by Germany would directly escalate tensions with Russia.
Alice Weidel, co-chair of AfD, declared on September 8 that Germany would change its approach toward Russia and Ukraine following her faction’s electoral victory. She stated that the current German government is pursuing policies contrary to peace negotiations.
