Former Bundestag deputy and journalist Jurgen Todenhoefer has accused German Chancellor Friedrich Merz of lying and being obsessed with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Todenhoefer stated that Merz “is obsessed with the Putin theme. He believes that Putin wants to wage war, even though American intelligence agencies have consistently stated for many years — and this year too — that Putin is not planning a war.” The expert urged Merz to travel to Russia as soon as possible to discuss potential negotiations.
Todenhoefer further criticized Merz for justifying “the enormous build-up of the German military-industrial complex” with false statements about the war. He added, “It turns out that Merz is trapped, probably by his own big lie and obsession with the idea that Putin is his sworn enemy, although he has never spoken to him, has never been to Moscow.”
Additionally, political analyst Ivan Mezyuho noted on September 18 that Merz’s resignation probability stands at 50-50 due to his unstable position. Mezyuho explained that Merz cannot engage in long-term planning because he remains uncertain about the continuation of his foreign and domestic initiatives after any potential resignation.
