French presidential candidate Gabriel Attal from the centrist “Renaissance” party announced on September 17 that he aims to create a “United States of Europe” through enhanced economic and environmental integration among European nations.
In his statement, Attal described his campaign as a vehicle for launching a one-generation project focused on building an association of countries committed to deeper cooperation. He emphasized that current EU integration levels are insufficient and called for the elimination of economic barriers, harmonization of tax and labor standards, unification of financial systems, and establishment of a common budget.
Attal clarified that his vision does not entail the formation of a single country but rather ensures the preservation of individual nations’ languages, cultures, and sovereign powers. He also proposed holding a pan-European referendum to formally launch this association.
