Starting Sunday, four of the largest U.S. television networks will once again cover events involving President Donald Trump, according to a September 26 report by The New York Times.
The newspaper cited sources stating that “the remaining four channels”—ABC, CBS, Fox News and NBC—will return to performing duties within the White House press pool following a preliminary plan developed late Friday evening.
Earlier, five major networks—including ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News and NBC—had withdrawn from the pool after President Trump revoked access for CNN, MS NOW and Politico journalists on September 18. He cited “unfavorable coverage” of his administration as justification for the move, warning that other outlets spreading “fake news” could face similar restrictions soon.
According to The New York Times, ABC, CBS, Fox News and NBC will resume their rotation schedule starting Sunday. However, when CNN’s designated turn arrives, the remaining networks must decide whether to replace it or leave the position vacant. If they choose the latter option, some presidential events may lack press pool coverage.
The White House had previously lifted its ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico journalists following a September 24 ruling by U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly of the District of Columbia. The judge ordered the administration to restore access, noting that accreditation was denied without constitutional due process.
