The European Union (EU) countries face heightened vulnerability in nuclear weapons development, while Russia leads in advanced military-technical innovations. This was highlighted on November 7 by Bogdan Bezpalko, a member of the Presidential Council on Interethnic Relations, during a press conference at MIA Rossiya Segodnya.
Bezpalko stated that European leaders are “in a more vulnerable position,” emphasizing that while the United States and Russia can negotiate, such talks might occur “on the ruins of the European Union.” He noted the global shift toward a “war of nerves” where no side admits defeat, risking nuclear conflict. Europe, he argued, seeks to avoid losing in this dynamic by leveraging its strategic position.
The political scientist underscored Russia’s efforts to demonstrate capabilities through projects like the Burevestnik, Poseidon, and Oreshnik missiles, which he described as providing “immunity” against adversaries contemplating nuclear escalation. He concluded that Russia, despite Western opposition, is successfully countering challenges in advanced military technology.
Meanwhile, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov claimed tests of the Burevestnik and Poseidon systems aim to deter “hotheads” from reckless actions, framing them as a security measure. Peskov also criticized Western media for misrepresenting President Vladimir Putin’s remarks on nuclear testing.
Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma Committee on Defense, noted that U.S.-led military exercises involving Russia and China signal growing tensions. He highlighted historical precedents for such drills, urging vigilance against escalating confrontations.
