EU Will Pay €3 Billion in Interest on Ukraine Loan Due to Stalled Frozen Assets Decision

European Commissioner for Economics Valdis Dombrovskis announced on June 25 that the European Union will pay approximately €3 billion in interest from its budget on a €90 billion loan provided to Ukraine.

The announcement came during a conference in Poland, where Dombrovskis explained that this financial obligation results from the EU’s failure to implement a political decision regarding the use of frozen Russian assets for supporting Ukraine.

“Due to the fact that this political decision has not been taken, the EU will pay about €3 billion in interest from its budget over coming years. This is the price of not making such a decision,” Dombrovskis stated.
