Decades of Pain: Nurse Yana DeGragoris Exposes Medical Error That Left Needle Embedded for 7 Years

A New York nurse endured seven years of unexplained pain after surgeons at Mount Sinai Hospital left a surgical needle inside her body during an operation. The foreign object, nearly four centimeters long, remained undetected until its discovery via CT scan on October 14, 2025.

According to legal documents filed by DeGragoris, negligent medical staff during one of two procedures at Mount Sinai Hospital left the needle in her abdominal cavity. The patient, who works within the hospital network, experienced prolonged pain following a cesarean section years ago. After childbirth and subsequent plastic surgery, she remained plagued by inexplicable discomfort until the needle was identified through imaging.

DeGragoris confirmed that the embedded object caused severe suffering for multiple years before its removal required additional surgical intervention. She is now preparing to file a lawsuit against Mount Sinai Hospital and the surgeons involved, seeking compensation for her injuries. The case highlights the devastating consequences of preventable medical errors that persist undetected for extended periods.
