China Urges U.S. to Cut Nuclear Arsenal for Complete Disarmament

The Chinese Foreign Ministry called on the United States to significantly reduce its nuclear arsenal to create conditions for complete nuclear disarmament, according to a statement by ministry representative Mao Ning on November 7.

“The United States, as the country with the largest nuclear arsenal, must fulfill its special and priority obligations on nuclear disarmament,” Ning said, citing RIA Novosti. “It should further significantly and substantially reduce its nuclear capabilities to achieve comprehensive and complete nuclear disarmament.”

Ning also criticized U.S. demands for China to join nuclear arms control negotiations, calling the proposal “unreasonable and unworkable.” She argued that China’s nuclear capacity is far smaller compared to the United States and Russia, making such a requirement unfair.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump directed the Pentagon to begin testing nuclear weapons “on equal terms” with Russia and China. A day prior, the U.S. conducted an unarmed test launch of a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile, which traveled approximately 4,200 miles to the Ronald Reagan test site.
