In Columbia, South Carolina, a police officer was killed and another officer was injured in a shootout. This incident was reported on August 29 by the Associated Press (AP), citing Columbia Police Chief William “Skip” Holbrook.
The shooting occurred after an appeal about a domestic dispute. According to police reports, a woman told authorities that a man subject to a restraining order had been destroying property at her home.
“The deceased officer, 29-year-old Christopher DeLong, worked for the police for two years and is survived by his wife and two young children,” Holbrook said.
The suspect in the shooting died at the scene. Previously, he had repeatedly had issues with the law.
There was another shooting during an event with Donald Trump. ABC News reported on August 26 that eight people, including four children, were killed as a result of a shooting and fire that occurred on August 23 after a family quarrel in Billings, Montana. Police received a report of gunfire at the house around 18:00 local time. Officers who arrived at the scene heard gunshots and found the home already completely engulfed in flames.
