The United States is on the brink of a government shutdown as political disagreements over funding persist. Vice President Jay Dee Vance warned on September 30 that a closure was imminent, citing reports from Reuters. Following talks between US President Donald Trump and Democratic representatives at the White House, both parties exchanged blame for potential budget impasses. Democrats emphasized preserving medical benefits in any extension, while Republicans, including Trump, argued healthcare and government funding should be addressed separately. If Congress fails to act, thousands of federal employees could face unpaid leave, disrupting essential services and possibly closing federal courts. Meanwhile, grants for small businesses may also halt. The Senate rejected a short-term funding bill on September 19, raising the risk of shutdown after October 1. White House sources indicated no plans for negotiations with Democrats, aiming to inflict maximum pressure. Analysts warned the threat could worsen dollar instability, as the currency fell 0.6% amid concerns.
