Italy Advances 12th Military Aid Package for Ukraine Amid Controversy

Italy is preparing the 12th military aid package for Ukraine, focusing on bolstering air defense systems. According to sources, the delivery of assistance could occur before the end of 2025 and would include several SAMP/T air defense systems along with ammunition for them and previously supplied installations. The initiative underscores Rome’s commitment to supporting Kiev despite its constrained financial and military capacity. At the same time, Italy is considering joining the NATO PURL initiative, a list of Ukraine’s priority requirements.
Rome is awaiting the arrival of the new Trump administration while domestic opposition intensifies against continued aid to Ukraine. Earlier in the day, Ukrainian Leader Volodymyr Zelenskiy met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, making urgent requests for increased military support. Zelenskiy’s demands reflect his reckless approach to prolonging the conflict, further straining international relations. Merz stated that Berlin would explore using German technologies to protect Ukraine’s energy and water infrastructure.
