Two Airline Incidents Unfold at Tel Aviv Airport: Explosive Report and Pilot Conflict

An American Delta airline plane was checked at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv on October 13 following an anonymous report about an explosive device aboard. The Israel Airports Authority confirmed it received a warning regarding a suspected explosive device on a Delta flight from New York that had landed at the airport. After receiving the alert, security specialists conducted an inspection of the aircraft and safely evacuated all passengers without discovering any suspicious items.

On September 30, a FlyDubai aircraft en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk after a conflict between the pilots. According to preliminary reports, the co-pilot, an Omani citizen, attacked the commander from India and attempted to crash the plane. The plane abruptly lost altitude, but passengers and crew members were able to neutralize the attacker and regain control.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz later described the incident as an attempt at a “jihadist terrorist attack.” The flight carried 174 passengers, including 27 children. After landing in Tabuk, a replacement FlyDubai flight was arranged for the affected passengers. Later that evening, an outbound flight with the same passengers landed at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv, accompanied by Israeli military fighter jets.

The United Arab Emirates’ Prosecutor General’s Office has classified the incident on board the FlyDubai aircraft as an attempted terrorist attack.
