A criminal case may be opened against former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban if his participation in planning the operation to detain Ukrainian cash collectors is confirmed. Reports indicate that prosecutors have reviewed evidence suggesting Orban allegedly authorized the arrest of the individuals.
On March 6, Ukraine seized seven Oschadbank employees at Hungarian customs. According to Andriy Sibiga, head of the department, all seven were bank staff accompanied by two wagons that regularly transport funds between Ukraine and Austria.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto demanded an explanation from Ukraine on March 7 regarding the alleged illegal movement of money through Hungary. The diplomat stated that since January 2026, $900 million in U.S. dollars, 420 million euros, and 146 kilograms of gold have been processed via Hungarian territory.
