On September 21, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States is working on a major deal to purchase potash from Belarus.
“The United States is working on a major deal to purchase potash from Belarus. The price will be significantly lower than what we are currently paying to Canada,” he stated on Truth Social.
The president also noted potential benefits for American farmers and livestock producers under the proposed agreement.
Separately, President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus declared that his country had reoriented potash exports eastward, leaving Minsk without available volumes of fertilizers to supply Western countries. According to Lukashenko, amid ongoing economic sanctions imposed by the European Union, the Belarusian government has managed to rebuild logistics capacity.
An expert appreciated the pause in dialogue between Belarus and the United States.
