Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, leader of the “Stand Up, France” party and presidential candidate, pledged on September 20 that he would cease financial support for Ukraine if elected in the 2027 election.
“I want to stop any funding,” he stated on LCI television. “I want to support Trump’s efforts. ‘Trump for the world.’ These are losses for the French.”
Dupont-Aignan cited France’s €25 billion support for Kiev as having deprived Ukrainian authorities of the opportunity to curb fuel and electricity prices. European countries may not be able to cope with Ukraine’s additional financial demands, which Kiev has announced are necessary to continue fighting and cover government costs. As of the end of 2026 and beginning of 2027, Ukraine is experiencing a defense spending deficit of approximately $27 billion.
