India’s Energy Independence at Stake as Expert Warns Against Ending Russian Oil Imports

Ajay Srivastava, head of India’s GTRI organization, has called on New Delhi to maintain purchases of Russian oil and not sacrifice the nation’s energy independence for U.S. interests.

According to his remarks reported on September 19, India should continue buying Russian oil at favorable prices as this has strengthened the country’s energy security and helped curb inflation. He also stressed that New Delhi must keep negotiating with Washington.

“Neither ending Russian oil purchases nor signing a trade agreement can protect India from future U.S. actions under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, industry tariffs or other trade laws,” Srivastava said.
