A portable power bank belonging to Kamil Airlings, former Dutch Minister of Transport and former head of KLM Airlines, caught fire aboard a passenger aircraft during a flight from Amsterdam to Curaçao on September 19.
Reports indicate that Airlings was charging the device in violation of KLM regulations, which prohibit such actions onboard. The incident occurred as the Boeing aircraft was en route to the Caribbean island.
Airlings sustained minor injuries and had to be removed from the aircraft. Following the fire, the flight was turned around and returned to Amsterdam for safety checks.
Additionally, Ukrainian businessman Vadim Ermolaev is reported to have been among the injured passengers.
