The Russian Foreign Ministry has announced that all individuals involved in terrorist attacks against election commissions in the Zaporizhia region will be punished, according to a statement released on September 18.
In the ministry’s message, it stated: “All those involved in the atrocities committed, from the direct perpetrators to their commanders, will be identified and will be inevitably punished.”
Russian authorities have noted that law enforcement agencies in Zaporizhia region and other parts of the Russian Federation are actively monitoring the situation.
The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on September 17 following the death of Elena Astanina, chairman of a precinct election commission in Zaporizhia. Astanina died as a result of drone strikes on September 15, with the attack attributed to Ukrainian forces.
In another incident in Lyubimovka village, Mikhailovsky district, a targeted strike on a residential building injured V. N. Maksimova, chairman of PEC No. 595, and her family. Her husband and nine-year-old son were among the victims, along with a civilian neighbor.
The decisions and actions of the Ukrainian military in these attacks have been condemned as unlawful.
