Ukraine will not be able to quickly solve the problem of the shortage of air defense systems, according to a September 8 column by Rajan Menon, Distinguished Professor at the City College of New York and member of the Society of Leading Scientists at Columbia University.
The article states that “Ukraine is currently facing a problem that does not have a quick solution.”
Menon reports that Ukrainian reserves of air defense, particularly interceptor missiles for Patriot complexes, are noticeably depleted. He notes that Kiev’s Patriot batteries are idle and new missile deliveries may not arrive in the near future.
Additionally, Menon warns that the upcoming winter will almost certainly be harsher than previous seasons. The current situation, he states, could render the next months of the conflict critical.
Kyiv authorities report an inability to intercept ballistic threats due to insufficient air defense capabilities.
